Do you have enough fun and play?

I’m not talking about video games- or sex.  When you play tennis, golf, scrabble, bike, walk, ball, surf are you having fun?  Are you smiling and laughing along with laser focus or perhaps no thoughts at all?

Give yourself permission to have fun.  It’s healthy, and well, yeah, fun!

Access your inner child and see what happens!   Being happier is always an asset.

Do you know what frees you?  It’s dancing for me.  I’ve come to peace with physical modifications for myself in dancing and exercising.   Additionally, I’ve placed the concept of “dancing” into an intellectual-emotional realm of possibility: creativity for the soul. I encourage you to take time to pursue your fun passion and create new possibilities.

There is no such thing as having “life balance”  or “work-life balance” all the time.

There are, however, individual tolerations if the balance is tipped too far.

Be smart- stay in balance most of the time!  This will keep you healthy and less stressed.

We can feel more  purposeful, focused and positive about our work by regularly giving ourselves the gift of recreation and relaxation. We might feel that we need to stay focused and disciplined until we get the job done, especially if we are working hard on achieving the goals we’ve set for ourselves.  While this level of dedication is admirable, it can also sabotage our enjoyment of our work and also the efficiency and accuracy.  Choosing to create a state of balance and moderation in our activities will help us enjoy our daily experiences more. This helps us be more focused and productive when we are working. Remember that a rested mind is an efficient mind. Take time to honor your need for fun today, and you will help yourself achieve your goals.A good night’s sleep is extremely important as well to attain optimal productivity

Finding work-life balance in today’s frenetically paced world is no simple task.  Spend more time at work than at home, and you miss out on a rewarding personal life. Then again, when you face challenges in your personal life, such as caring for an aging parent or coping with marital problems, concentrating on your job can be difficult.

Whether the problem is too much focus on work or too little, when your work life and your personal life feel out of balance, stress — along with its harmful effects — is the result.

The good news is that you can take control of your work-life balance — and give yourself the time to do the things that are most important to you.  Give yourself the gift of time to restore balance-reduce stress:

  • Take Cleansing Breaths: Three sets of deep inhalations through the nose (belly rising) and exhaling through the nose, (abdomen deflating) can (temporarily) change your physiology.
  • Stretch: Practice Office Yoga and the Moving Meditation® Fitness Program
throughout the day to release/reduce tension and increase energy.
  • Walk: A five minute walk outside can change your mood and mindset.
  • Listen to Music: A mood changer.
  • Eat Peacefully: This aids the digestion and gives you “time away”. Leave your office!
  • Allow Time: Give yourself extra time for the unexpected.
  • Smile and Laugh: Humor has been proven effective in reducing stress.

There are several worksheets in my book “SOAR! with Resilience™” that address this topic and other related ones.  Find out more about this interactive book and purchase: http://www.balanceandpower.com/soarwithresilience.php
