This week I’ve been especially introspective and contemplative with my undertaking Jack Canfield’s fully revised and updated “The Success Principles”  and coinciding with Rosh Hashonah and next week Yom Kippur – the 10 days now in between are named “Days of Awe” or the Days of Repentance. This is a time for serious introspection, a time to consider the sins of the previous year and repent before Yom Kippur.

Key to Jack C’s teaching is the formula E + R = O (Event + Response = Outcome”).

Key to making this formula work is taking responsibility for your everything without complaining, blaming or excuses. Well, with that said I’ve made a bunch of my own “resolutions” apologies and taken a few words and phrases out of my vocabulary (a work in progress…it takes at least 21 days to change a habit). I’m also EFT tapping everyday for reinforcement and I’ve taken time to review my long and short-term goals. Having taken this on and reviewing personal development material with my commitment to take one hour daily for reading, listening, writing and the inherent happiness and beginnings with a new year (Rosh Hashonah), I am passing on the good feelings to you, my dear reader. It’s always good to review principles that resonate!

There is an abundance of research on happiness and gratitude.

I’ve made a personal study of it and here are some of my favorite facts and inspirational thoughts on happiness and gratitude.  Enjoy!:

Happy people generally are more forgiving, helpful, and charitable, having better self-control, and are more tolerant of frustration than unhappy people.

 A 30 percent increase in one spouse’s happiness boosts the other spouse’s happiness, while a drop in one spouse’s happiness drags the other down.

 Yeats:  “We are happy when we are growing.”

 Did you know that the brain is stimulated by surprise?

 Samuel Jackson: “The business of the wise man is to be happy”.

 Research shows that acting in an outgoing, talkative, adventurous or assertive way makes people- even introverts-feel happier.

 Making and sticking to a decision is a source of happiness because it gives you a sense of control, of efficacy, of responsibility.

 At time of financial stress, taking control of your finances- even symbolically- can boost your mood because you’re taking steps to control and improve your situation.

 Gratitude is important to happiness.  Studies show that consistently grateful people are happier and more satisfied with their lives; they even feel more physically healthy and spend more time exercising.

 Gratitude fosters forbearance- it’s harder to feel disappointed with someone when you are feeling grateful toward him or her.

 Gratitude connects you to the natural world, because one of the easiest things to feel grateful for is the beauty of nature. 

 Studies show that happier people are more likely to help other people.

Happier people are more interested in social problems.  They do more volunteer work and contribute more to charity.

 One of the best ways to make yourself happy is to make other people happy.

One of the best ways to make other people happy is to be happy yourself!

 Publius Syrus: “No man is happy who does not think himself so”

Saint Therese:  I take care to appear happy and especially to be so.”

 A small child typically laughs more than four hundred times a day, and an adult- seventeen times. 

Laughter can boost immunity and lower blood pressure and cortisol levels and increases people’s tolerance for pain.

About Eileen:
I’ve overcome obstacles in areas of my life… After battling colitis for many years, I found a holistic approach to healing myself that worked wonderfully together with my medical care. My participation in modalities incorporating positive thinking, affirmations, relaxation breathing, exercise and stretching were instrumental to my conquering colitis and became part of my Moving Meditation® Fitness audio program.

16 years ago, I was involved in a pedestrian accident in which my right foot was run over by a van, which left me with five breaks in a bone in my foot. During my recovery I was asked by a local physician to help write a curriculum for a new stress-reduction program he was developing. He encouraged me to read John Kabot-Zinn’s Full Catastrophe Living” and Herbert Benson’s “The Relaxation Response”, which turned my negative attitude towards recovery around and were catalysts to my healing and I was able to teach Hatha yoga for this course within a few months.

I was dealing with a severely broken foot, which had huge amounts of tissue damage. During this time of healing, with my prognosis unknown,I decided to become a trained bio-feedback therapist as well as work in that field in order to have career “back-up” because of my unknown prognosis.

The mind-body connection, the autogenic and relaxation training plus counseling techniques contributed significantly to my own healing; a powerful reinforcement of the power of the mind-body connection. I was also greatly impacted during this time by professional training at the Omega Institute with Dr. Kabat-Zinn, who founded the Center for Mindfulness Based Stress-Reduction Programs at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. The training was pivotal in integrating all the work I was doing and clarified my goal to be trained as a professional coach. I then went on to the Corporate Coach University, a branch of Coach U and recognized by the International Coach Federation.

Since then I have been and continue to be inspired by the impact people can have on their lives when they choose to manage and reduce stress. I am honored to be a part of that process in anyway that I can.

Finding the balance of spontaneity with intuition helps us make choices that benefit our lives. Notice when you are feeling impulsive or spontaneous and then ask yourself, “Will this really benefit me?”  The answer comes in the form of a verbal response or simply an instinctual feeling. Try to pay attention to your feeling; that is your intuition guiding you to make the right choices. It is important to remember that making spontaneous decisions doesn’t necessarily mean being hasty. Acting with energy and spontaneity is a wonderful way to live our lives, as it means we are being in the moment. However, it can lead us to make decisions that may not be the best for us  and may lead to stress, frustration, anger, anxiety, depression.  I know my that SOAR! with Resilience™ Book can help with these issues and challenges.

and just not able to get to that deep place
of peace where I love to be for part of my day..

So I did some tapping (EFT) on it, and had some
significant shifts in stress relief and attitude.

I’m going to share with you several of
those tapping scripts below.

Work on the one that resonates most for you,
tap on them all if you want to, and pay particular
attention to what comes up for YOU.

So if you’re tapping with one of these scripts
and a particular project comes to mind, or
stress about a situation, tap on that specifically.

The more SPECIFIC you can get with your
personal stuff, the better results you’ll have.

1.  General Overwork and Overstress

Karate Chop:  Even though I’m totally overworked,
really stressed out and have WAY too much to
do…. I deeply and completely accept myself

(Repeat the above phrase three times while
Tapping on the karate chop point)

Eyebrow: Way too much to do…
Side of the Eye:  My “to-do” list is a mile long…
Under Eye: When will I ever get it done?
Under Nose: I’ll never get it done…
Under Mouth: I’m overworked and stressed out….
Collarbone: When can I relax?
Under the Arm: I can’t seem to relax
Top of the Head: Too much to do…

(Repeat the above phrases a couple of times,
you can throw in your own phrases as well, and
when you feel significant relief, move on to
the positive phrases)

Eyebrow: I chose to relax now…
Side of the Eye: I chose to REALLY relax now…
Under the Eye: I’ll never get it ALL done…
Under Nose: And that’s ok…
Under Mouth: I chose to slow down and take a breath…
Collarbone: I am not my “to-do” list…
Under the Arm: I am good enough no matter
what I get done…
Top of the Head: I chose to relax and let it go now…

2.  Cultural Drive To Do More and Be More

Karate Chop:  Even though society says I need
to work harder, to do more, be more and never stop,
I deeply and completely accept myself

(Repeat the above phrase three times while tapping
on the karate chop point)

Eyebrow: I need to keep working…
Side of the Eye: I have to do more…
Under Eye: I need to be more…
Under Nose: I can never stop…
Under Mouth: I have to keep up…
Collarbone: Need to keep going…
Under the Arm: Can never stop…
Top of the Head: Gotta keep going…

(Repeat the above phrases a couple of times,
you can throw in your own phrases as well, and
when you feel significant relief, move on to
the positive phrases)

Eyebrow: I chose to slow down….
Side of the Eye: I chose to breathe….
Under Eye: I am perfect as I am….
Under Nose: I can chose my own way…
Under Mouth: I don’t have to be like anyone else….
Collarbone: Society can keep going crazy, I chose
to relax…
Under the Arm: I choose whether to work more or not…
Top of the Head: It’s all within my control….

Keep tapping until you get relief!

These are just general phrases to get you started and
bring you some relief.

Make sure to pay attention to what came up for YOU.

Jot down whatever specific event, issue or memory these
phrases triggered, and then work on tapping those
down.
