Studies show that the amygdala and the hippocampus, two brain areas in the limbic system, are known to play a major role in laughter. The limbic system is a primitive part of the brain that regulates emotions . . . and helps us with basic functions necessary for survival.

Laughter is a signal that lets everyone know that you’re part of the group. Your laughter indicates positive interaction and acceptance.

When you joyfully laugh, it acknowledges the listener by setting an emotional tone for the conversation and further interactions and intentions. (This undoubtedly helped primitive humans survive back in the day.)

Further research proves laughter boosts your immune system. It’s also known to reduce stress and improve memory function.

When was the last time you had a good laugh? Laughter has a huge effect on creating a positive mental attitude and physical well-being. And a positive mental attitude and healthy body are crucial to achieving success! Additionally, EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques, Tapping) has the same positive effects and sends serotonin, a feel-good hormone to the amygdala.

Focus is one of the keys to success and necessary to be on your game.

Many people find it hard to focus, but it is a skill you can develop.  Do you know you can rewire negative patterns?? Try these suggestions for improving your focus:

  • Stop multitasking.  Research shows that dividing attention across multiple activities is taxing on the brain, and can often come at the expense of real productivity.  There is a small percentage of “supertaskers” out there, probably not you.
  • Train your brain. .   Invest time in mastering attention training or meditation — both are great ways to practice taming distractions and improving focus.  Any skill worth having requires practice; time well spent.
  • Screen out distractions. Start by turning off the TV, putting down your phone and logging out of email.
  • Invest in Your Peak Time  .  When is your energy at it’s peak?  Plan your work for those times and use your less energetic times for leisure or a nap.
  •  Create off site storage for mental notes and unfinished business. Too many mental notes make for a cluttered mind.. Put whatever’s on your mind on paper or capture it digitally.
  • Revisit prioritizing and SMART Goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely.  It’s your game!  Give yourself permission to change your mind and prioritize differently- in life and in business.
  • “Start with the end in mind. ” ― Stephen R. Covey, Seven Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change
  • Visualize positive outcomes in your meditative time.
  • Learn EFT to help create new habits, increase focus, clarity and be on your game!Image

This season Less Stress for the Holidays , Managing Time & Focus to Attain Your Goals  have been well received  topics in my workshop venues. I’ve come to the personal-professional conclusion that what all participants relate to for an easier season is keeping things simple.

I’m an advocate of this philosophy year round- and I think we all go through phases and times where the “complicated version” is attractive.  Extra seasonal demands point to staying with the basics and what matters most. “Being stressed” is about feeling overwhelmed and out of control- and sometimes circumstances are beyond our control.  We always have a choice, however, about how we cope with these circumstances.

I want to thank each of you in our Long Island Networking community for the wonderful venues and events provided this year and look forward to additional opportunities to build a strong network of caring business owners and colleagues, as well as  international friends and colleagues via social media and the internet groups I belong to.

See my  Events Page for upcoming stress and anger reducing groups that also will give you a confidence boost!  Give yourself the gift of less stress, increased focus, clarity, creativity, improved health and a terrific attitude! Products Page
