I was researching the fear of not knowing in relation to medical diagnosis, aging-death concerns for family members and current safety issues with terrorism.  Several clients are currently experiencing these challenges… I  learned that this is an actual “phobia”:  “Agnosiophobia” that is quite prevalent in these times, not only to the above-mentioned issues, also in applying for work, having an interview, presenting a proposal, online dating, meeting someone new and more.

For some, the “not knowing” is extremely anxiety producing, as is any phobia.  The good news is that a modality I am certified in, in the field of energy psychology is EFT Emotional Freedom Techniques, also known as tapping, researched backed to reverse and transform fear!  I have successfully worked with client’s transforming fear of flying, heights, water and more! Events Don’t Create Emotions — Your Beliefs Do

Reframing is a way of viewing and experiencing events, ideas, concepts and emotions to find more positive alternatives. Perhaps your thoughts go like this: Meetings at work make you bored. Receiving criticism makes you frustrated. Traffic makes you angry. Talking to people you don’t know at a social or business event makes you nervous.

If you want to change your feelings about a situation, you don’t actually have to change the situation itself (which isn’t always possible), or try to avoid it entirely (which can be detrimental).  Instead, you simply have to change your beliefs about it.

How to Reframe for Resilience

So how do you go about changing your beliefs/perspective about something?

Ask yourself: In what context could this be useful?  What else could this mean?

We all have a dark side – or the voice in your head  – or the egoic mind.   We tend to take this voice seriously–we believe it, agree with it, and don’t question it. We believe it because we are programmed to believe our own thoughts, regardless of whether they are true and helpful or not. We tend to take this voice seriously–we believe it, agree with it, and don’t question it.  This mental voice is often unkind, belittling, fearful, self-doubting, judgmental, complaining, confused, and unhelpful. It turns out that the voice in our head is not a very good guide to life, and yet we tend to accept what it says and do what it suggests

Much of the time, this voice seems like our own thoughts and voice and sometimes like a parent, other authority figure or friend. We identify with them–we feel they reflect who we are. We don’t tend to question our own thoughts, although we readily question other people’s thoughts, especially if those thoughts are different from ours. But when we stop and examine what this mental voice is saying, we discover a lot of contradictory advice, misinformation, prejudices, judgments, and other negativity. This mental voice is often unkind, belittling, fearful, self-doubting, judgmental, complaining, confused, and unhelpful.
Lifetime programming to pay attention to and believe this aspect of the mind is usually very strong, and it takes not only seeing the truth about it, but also a practice, as in meditation, of not giving our attention to this mental voice before we gain enough distance from it to experience freedom and the joy and peace of our true self and also of EFTtapping  to release negativity and stress and motivation to take positive action.

Bullying rates remain higher for children with disabilities, even as they mature.

I hear the expression “it is what it is” quite frequently.  Sometimes I wonder if the speaker is simply stating a fact or is resigned to an unhappy outcome.  We cannot change many circumstances and certainly not the perception or behavior of others.  However, I do feel strongly that for most folks  there is often a way to adjust the ebook-cover-angerthings we are in control of – including our own perceptions – and use tools to shift our attitude and way of coping- so the “it”changes a bit and is perceived in a more positive light.  Personally, I stay away from using this expression and often cringe internally when I hear another say it.  When it’s a client, it can become a discussion about additional possibilities and doors to open.  The combination of being intuitive and a great problem solver – looking at myriads of possibilities has helped many clients to see things from a different, more hopeful perspective.
