As you may know and most of the medical industry is now discovering, when we have physical problems they are almost always connected with our emotions. Emotional Freedom Technique comes to the rescue and is showing astounding transformative results. EFT, Emotional Freedom Technique, is often described as the tapping technique and is a powerful stress reduction tool that is proving to be extremely effective in a wide variety of conditions in which stress can be a causative or aggravating factor.

Research continues to expand its evidence of effectiveness for conditions as anxiety, PTSD, phobias, suppression of cravings and more. EFT is an approach that incorporates multiples aspects of the mind and body through the stimulation of the meridian energy system that has been utilized in Chinese Medicine and acupuncture for thousands of years. When these points are tapped on by the client him-herself, while the practitioner is verbalizing the challenge in language that reflects what the client has revealed , the stress hormone cortisol is released and the stress reducing hormone serotonin is produced and sent to the amygdala which  is the integrative center for emotions, emotional behavior, and motivation.  Research has shown most of us do not have enough serotonin produced in our bodies.  Pharmaceutically manufactured serotonin is in many antidepressants.  Many physical ailments and conditions are also reversed or lessened with EFT, sometimes as a “by product” of the emotional stress reduction, and sometimes directly.  Cravings may be eliminated or significantly reduced and weight loss evolves naturally with the release of cortisol, which is the stress hormone that lands in the belly. Yet another wonderful effect EFT has is increased circulation.  As is currently said “in the field”, “Tap on anything!”

ebook-cover-angerForgiveness has been said to be an antidote to anger  in your life because every time you remember the injustice, and you will remember it since forgiving is NOT forgetting, you choose to release the perpetrator from the debt that she/he owes you.  You may read about the Biehl’s amazing journey here:

http://thejourneyofhope.blogspot.ca/2009/03/amy-biehl-and-improbable-tale-of.html

And…The Mayo Clinic Staff reports that researchers are claiming that, in addition to improving your spiritual health, forgiveness may have benefits for your physical health, too.  This is definitely something that warrants our attention!  It is being said that “letting go of grudges and bitterness can make way for compassion, kindness and peace, and that forgiveness can lead to:

  •  Healthier relationships
  • Greater spiritual and psychological well-being
  • Less anxiety, stress and hostility
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Fewer symptoms of depression
  • Lower risk of alcohol and substance abuse”

Well, this helps explain the statement I’ve heard and read again and again that if you experience a high level of gratitude you cannot be depressed.  This makes sense since depression is anger suppressed.  Imagine a line with frustration in the middle.  It can go either way- one end is depression(extremely suppressed anger) and the other is a high anger level – often in an inappropriate, aggressive way.

The University of Maryland School of Medicine  is researching the connection between anger and  “unforgiveness”. Anger is a component of unforgiveness and anger is a health risk.  Then is unforgiveness  a health risk  as well? Included in the research are studies with aids patients.  Knowing more about the nature and course of anger expression in the context of unforgiveness will ultimately help define and clarify this area of research.

Now I’ll share a few important points that can be helpful in letting go of anger- something I’ve learned as an Advanced EFTtapping  (Emotional Freedom Techniques) Certified Practitioner in a training I attended and has been reinforced in my trainings to facilitate Anger Management.

  • As the victim, it’s OK to forgive only a small percent.
  • Perhaps the other’s behavior was impacted by a chemical/emotional imbalance
  • *** The other was doing what he/she knew how to do – perhaps learned – no matter.
  • It’s possible that the action was not meant “personally” – it was simply an “M.O.”
  • It’s impossible to change another person’s way of dealing; only your own.

If you or someone you love gets help with managing anger and/or letting it go as a victim, then stress is automatically addressed and therefore health will improve too!

Balance & Power, Inc. has been addressing stress and anger management issues for two decades, corporately and  in the educational and private sectors, and is now facilitating Workplace Bullying Prevention trainings.

You may know that I was Director of Development NAMI Queens Nassau ten years ago and also ran a group there.  Some of my clients now are mentally ill and also see mental healthcare professionals. I am always trying to spread awareness and fight stigma against mental illness.  The piece below is the best I’ve seen written on this recent tragedy (reprinted with permission). Additionally, the Long Island Crisis Center is having a local walk:

ROBIN WILLIAMS’ SUICIDE – HERE’S THE REAL MESSAGE

So much has already been said about Robin Williams’ death by suicide that there really isn’t much left to say. While shining a light on the serious issues of substance abuse, mental illness and suicide helps to remove the stigma attached, journalists and radio and tv personalities have an obligation to their readers, viewers, etc. to report the news in a responsible way. Unfortunately, this does not always happen.

I heard a dj on the radio say that he heard that the people who were close to Robin Williams are now saying that warning signs of suicide were there. The dj then went on to ask the question, “why didn’t those people get him some help?” It is public knowledge that Robin Williams was seeking help for both his addiction and his severe depression. However, “help” doesn’t fix the problem overnight or miraculously make a person feel instantaneously good again. “Help” requires hard work over a period of time. Sometimes when a person is in such a depressed state, they start to feel hopeless, which means that they don’t believe there is any hope that things will ever get better. At that point, they may decide that asking for or accepting further “help” will not do any good. They just want to do something that will end the pain.

Another problem with that question is that it implies that those closest to Robin Williams are somehow to blame for what happened. People who are bereaved by suicide feel a variety of emotions, guilt being one of the strongest ones. The truth is that none of us, no matter how much we think we matter or how influential we think we are, have enough power to cause another person to take his or her life. However, not being able to comprehend exactly what the person who died by suicide was feeling, leaves those closest to them wondering what they could have done differently to prevent the death by suicide. Questions like this only add to the guilt those bereaved by suicide already feel.

I realize that what this dj said was in no way meant to be accusatory or hurtful to those closest to Robin Williams. I bring it up simply to point out that the issue of suicide is not a simple one and our choice of words when someone dies by suicide is very important.

The most important message from this tragedy is that “help” is available. The first step is knowing when and where to find the help. A good way to begin the helping process is to reach out to Long Island Crisis Center’s 24/7 hotline at 516/679-1111. It is free, anonymous and confidential. Or call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK if you’re outside the Long Island area.

There is no need to wait until you get to the point where you feel hopeless. There is no need for family or friends to feel hopeless about getting help for someone they care about.
