Here are 10 simple ways to beat the blues and add well being!:

1.  Take time outside- even on a cold or dreary day fresh air is a mood booster, as is sunshine’s vitamin D.

2.  Face time with a friend and if possible a happy person- it’s contagious!

3.  Listen to music, an instant mood – dopamine booster! Dopamine is the neurotransmitter that regulates the brain’s pleasure center – which also gets a boost from sex and food! 🙂

4.  Move.  A 20 minute workout can improve your mood for up to 12 hours!  Do what you like- not necessarily the treadmill.  Take a fun class or walk-run-bike with a friend.

5.  Take a catnap.  A nap can be an incredible mood booster.

6.  Snack if you’re hungry- don’t let low blood sugar make you crabby.

7.  Volunteer: Research shows that volunteerism can significantly increase happiness and life satisfaction.

8.  Render acts of kindness to strangers.

9. SMILE! and act “as if”.

10.  When possible, be around children and pets 🙂

Certain strengths are most closely linked to happiness. They include gratitude, hope, vitality, curiosity, and love. These strengths are so important that they’re worth cultivating and help you weather the ups and downs of life and also build resilience for times of greater difficulty.

Specifically in a down economy it’s important to stay with the grateful piece. Gratitude is a thankful appreciation for what you have—from a roof over your head to good health to people who care about you. When you acknowledge the goodness in your life, you begin to recognize that the source of that goodness lies at least partially outside yourself. In this way, gratitude helps you connect to something larger than your individual experience — whether to other people, nature, or a higher power.

Do you know that people who are grateful cannot be depressed! Here are a few things to do to harness gratefulness and to stay centered , another necessary ingredient for being happy:

● Set aside a few minutes every day and think about five large or small things you’re

grateful for. Write them down if you like. Be specific and remember what each thing

means to you. Review them before going to sleep and on awakening.

● Take “grateful walks” in nature, noticing all the wonders. Create a grateful mantra

for yourself to repeat as you walk-breathe. ie: inhale love 4 steps, exhale self doubt

4 steps. Inhale confidence, exhale fear.

Achieving maximum physical, emotional and spiritual health through relaxation breathing, movement, visualization/positive imagery and meditation.
A Fitness and Relaxation Program greatly impacts achievement of one’s personal and professional objectives. This program is available on mp3.   More Information

confidence and attain goals.

Activities that release and relax give you energy and vitality. Stress often builds up in our bodies and minds, leaving us feeling worn down or overly sensitive to stimuli.

Do you want to feel more positive and energized? Find activities that you like to do- outdoors if possible that include exercise and breathwork.

I love Zumba, a dance-exercise modality and always feel fanastic after taking a class.  A walk on the beach, kayaking in calm waters or bicycling on the Long Beach, Long Island boardwalk are also activities I enjoy that release and relax and give me energy and vitality.

Actively releasing stress from our bodies through physical activity or breath work immediately makes us feel calmer and more in control. Using the power of our minds to focus on more positive thoughts will begin to infuse us with energy and vitality, and we benefit by feeling stronger, more balanced, and ready to engage in our normal activities again.   Spend time releasing tension from your body and mind , and give yourself the gift of energy and vitality.
