Bullying rates remain higher for children with disabilities, even as they mature.  

Studies point out the necessity for special education programs to teach appropriate response skills to children with disabilities.  I facilitate workshops and trainings for children, families, educators and parents with this topic as well as bullying prevention and anger management

 Resolving conflicts,  violence & bullying prevention workplace programs in the workplace and schools need to be in the  forefront again with the horrific event in our nation’s capital.  The news coverage has informed us the murderer had PTSD and had a previously reported gun problem.    I shy away from expressing political  opinion in my work and know now that I must take a stand for stronger gun control and background checks with proper privacy controls.  The other component is to up the ante on public education and trainings in the field of conflict resolution, anger/stress management , violence prevention and bullying prevention in the schools and workplace.  I work with small groups, individuals and couples in my Long Island office and via Video skype as well as go onsite to facilitate.  Every group presentation is customized.  You may contact me for a 15 minute complimentary strategy phone session 516 623 4353 or connect with me via email

Studies have been verifying that bullying (victim or perpetrator) affects adulthood. A new study suggests that  that bullying doesn’t end in the schoolyard, but casts a shadow into adulthood when emotional, behavioral, financial and health problems manifest.

Research shows that the poor results for victims and victims-perpetrators ran high even when other important factors such as childhood psychiatric disorders and family hardship were controlled.  It’s these victims-perpetrators that are the most socially defeated, as they are unsuccessful at fighting back.  Bullies enter adulthood with similar problems as victims: low self esteem, poor communicative abilities, poor anger and stress control  and difficulty sustaining positive relationships. 

 The global economic and political climate is a large stress factor for most people.  Anger is a natural human emotion; however it can be self-sabotaging and destructive when out of control…  I will be facilitating a three week Anger Management group for adults in Long Island starting soon.  See details and sign up here: http://www.balanceandpower.com/angermanagement.php

Things can be chaotic enough “out there” without workplace bullying, which unfortunately  is on the upswing;  workplace bullying is a hot topic now.

 Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia defines workplace bullying:

Workplace bullying, like childhood bullying, is the tendency of individuals or groups to use persistent aggressive or unreasonable behavior against a co-worker or subordinate. Workplace bullying can include such tactics as verbalnonverbalpsychologicalphysical abuse and humiliation. This type of aggression is particularly difficult because, unlike the typical forms of school bullying, workplace bullies often operate within the established rules and policies of their organization and their society. Bullying in the workplace is in the majority of cases reported as having been perpetrated by management and takes a wide variety of forms. Bullying can be covert or overt.

The Professional Liability Underwriting Society’s seminar “Hot Topics on D&O and Employment Practices Liability” at the University of Chicago on May 10, 2012 was led by four corporate employment law specialists.

Hot Topic #2  was Workplace Bullying.  After an honest review of what our proposed anti-bullying legislation, the Healthy Workplace Bill, does for employers and for workers and what it does not do, the employer advocates suggested that employers are wise to get ahead of this trend and address workplace bullies in a proactive manner.

Several years ago, I became a certified anger management specialist/educator and work with court mandated  as well as individuals and groups who are truly motivated to learn how to release anger and stress in appropriate ways and have happier, more successful lives.

The other side of the spectrum are the victims.  Those who have been bullied , physically and/or emotionally abused have a lot in common:

  • Poor or no self-esteem
  • Poor or no self-love
  • Depression or Anger
  • Difficulty focusing
