When we hold hope or sadness, pathways appear in the brain to support that sadness or hope; that’s been documented. The same thing happens at a cellular level. When we consistently hold an emotion, a large amount of related hormones are released to every cell. In other words, your brain and every cell of your body support you in the feelings that you consistently hold and leave no space for the other emotions. So, hold hope!
If you are not happy with your holdings, then you can change that! It takes a while to rebuild, and here are three tips to changing the emotion which changes the chemistry and becomes a cycle:
1. Pay attention to your thoughts and attitude. If you find negativity or sadness, pause and breathe.
2. Learn and practice EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques, tapping) to create self-acceptance and compassionate change.
