Speak with your eyes and listen with the ears of your heart..
June 6, 2010 by Eileen Lichtenstein
Today while I was visiting Mom at her nursing home, a kind gentleman was in the wheelchair besides her. I knew him as a very talented piano player providing entertainment for the residents. Last year he became ill and was admitted to the facility. Now he is unable to speak or move, communicating with his eyes only. His daughter, in from Munich, was visiting him and we were having a conversation. I knew he was following it, unable to comment and I said to Peter, “we are speaking with our eyes and listening with the ears of our heart.” His eyes lit up, and his daughter told me he liked my comment..
It is so important in our communication to combine body language with our verbal communication. It adds another dimension of comprehension, and can be quite helpful and effective in getting points across.
Effective communication is a learned skill. If you or someone you love needs help with that, you may contact me for a 30 minute complimentary phone consult that we can arrange through email or phone. Stay tuned for some workshops around this topic and let me know if your organization is interested in hosting the workshop “Communicating Effectively”.
