This season Less Stress for the Holidays , Managing Time & Focus to Attain Your Goals  have been well received  topics in my workshop venues. I’ve come to the personal-professional conclusion that what all participants relate to for an easier season is keeping things simple.

I’m an advocate of this philosophy year round- and I think we all go through phases and times where the “complicated version” is attractive.  Extra seasonal demands point to staying with the basics and what matters most. “Being stressed” is about feeling overwhelmed and out of control- and sometimes circumstances are beyond our control.  We always have a choice, however, about how we cope with these circumstances. 

I want to thank each of you in our Long Island Networking community for the wonderful venues and events provided this year and look forward to additional opportunities to build a strong network of caring business owners and colleagues, as well as  international friends and colleagues via social media and the internet groups I belong to.

I’ve recently discovered after reading a newsletter from Jack Canfield  that “The Nine Environments”, (named by Coach U in 2005) is quite similar to “The Wheel of Life”, used by Native Americans and Eastern culture for centuries.

THE MEMETIC ENVIRONMENT

The memetic environment includes ideas, values, thoughts, beliefs, paradigms, styles and habits that are passed down from generation to generation. The memetic environment also includes information and knowledge (books, websites, magazines, television, and radio)

THE BODY ENVIRONMENT

The body environment includes the body, hair, skin, nails, health and energy. This environment touches the network environment, as it includes physicians, skin care consultants, massage therapists, hair dressers, physical therapists, dietitians, personal trainers and other professionals who support your physical body and well being.

THE SELF ENVIRONMENT

The self environment includes our strengths, talents, personalities, feelings, emotions, values, passions and skills. The self environment includes the intangible aspects of our beings.

THE NATURE ENVIRONMENT

The nature environment includes nature, parks, bodies of water, the seasons of the year, pets, plants, the seasons of life, and the outdoors. As humans, we are a part of nature, so access to this environment is crucial for our survival and ultimate well-being.

THE SPIRITUAL ENVIRONMENT

The spiritual environment includes our connections to a higher power, to God or Spirit, the invisible connection we feel to others and the universe. It includes methods of connecting to spiritual aspects of life (such as meditation, prayer, and places of worship).

THE RELATIONSHIP ENVIRONMENT

The relationship environment includes those people in our lives who are closest to us and with whom we have an intimate connection. This includes family, close friends, close colleagues, co-workers, mentors and neighbors who are in our lives on a daily basis.

THE NETWORK ENVIRONMENT

The network environment is an extension of the relationship environment. It includes people with whom you are on a first name basis, yet you may not have a deep and intimate connection. The network environment includes business associates, community organizations, support groups you belong to. The goal of the network environment is usually to provide an exchange of information and to build bridges to people who can support you in enhancing both your business and personal life.

THE FINANCIAL ENVIRONMENT

The financial environment includes bills, credit cards, money, investments, insurance, stocks and bonds and the people who support your financial well-being (accountants, financial planners, stock brokers). This environment also includes any tools or support services you use to achieve your financial goals files, computer programs, budgets, banks. When exploring the financial environment, it is also important to look closely at the relationship a person has with money and their beliefs around money and prosperity/abundance.

THE PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

The physical environment includes the very tangible aspects of our lives…our home, office, car, furnishings, artwork, toys, boats, and accessories. The physical environment provides visual clues to what is going on in our lives. Clutter, noise, broken equipment can be visual clues to looking deeper to discover our thoughts, energy and behaviors.

“They” say that people’s fear of public speaking is worse than our fear of  death.  The fear  and anxiety that  public speaking causes is the #1 fear in the  world!

  • Are you one of the many whose knees shake and voice quails if you have to present a speech or compete in your sport or ask the boss for a raise?

Here are some tried & true goal setting success strategies and info on a super series starting 1/10/11

  1. Be certain that the goal is something you really want- not just something that sounds good.
  2. Take all aspects of a situation into consideration. “Integrated” thinking prevents self-sabotage.
  3. Write your goal in positive language.  The more positive instructions you give your unsconscious mind, the more positive results you get!
  4. Write your goal in detail; be specific with as much information as possible.
  5. Shoot for the moon!  If you miss you’ll still be in the stars.
  6. Review and re-prioritize your goals frequently.
  7. Throughout the day ask yourself re current actions “does this take me closer or further from my goals(s)?”
