Developing a lasting attitude of happiness is most often a matter of accepting much of the world for what it is.  Since the conditions that meet our expectations will not always be present in our lives, our lives can be more satisfying when we make the most frustrating circumstances that are placed onto our paths. I hope you took note of the word “much” in my first sentence- as I am a strong advocate of establishing personal, professional and political boundaries and being able to say “no” even when that can lead to an outcome that may not be immediately positive or provide satisfaction.

Developing a lasting attitude of happiness may include looking for the positive points in a seemingly negative situation or endeavoring to have fun when there seems to be no reason to be jovial. In treating the unexpected in this fashion, we discover that true joy is seldom dependent on outside forces. Rather, it comes from within us, fueled by our commitment to looking on the bright side of life.   Search for the silver lining hidden in a frustrating situation and see what happens!

The  Holiday Tapping Script below arrived in my inbox today from Nick Ortner- a must share!

If you’re not familiar with the Emotional Freedom Techniques or Meridian Tapping process you can  learn it here

Karate Chop: Even though I’m overwhelmed with everything
that is going on this holiday season, I deeply
and completely accept myself….

Karate Chop: Even though I’m stressed out because I have
way too much to do, and not enough time, I deeply
and completely accept myself…

Karate Chop: Even though I’m frustrated with the craziness
of the holidays, I chose to relax now.

Eyebrow: Way too stressed out…
Side of the Eye: Too much to do…
Under Eye: I’ve got way too much to do…
Under Nose: And not enough time…
Under Mouth: There’s just not enough time…
Collarbone: And it’s stressing me out….
Under Arm:  Too many presents to buy…
Top of the Head: Too many people to see….

(continuing though the points again)

Eyebrow: Why do the holidays have to be so crazy?
Side of the Eye: It’s nuts!
Under Eye: But I can chose to relax now…
Under Nose: I can chose to relax anytime….
Under Mouth: I can chose to let go….
Collarbone: I chose to enjoy this holiday season….
Under Arm:  I chose to notice the love, joy and peace
around me….
Top of the Head: I chose to create love, joy and peace
around me…

Take a deep breath….

And let it go….

What came up? If there’s something specific that’s
bothering you, tap on that.

Remember, the more specific you can get on your issue
the better, the above is just to get you started.

Spend another 5 minutes (I know you don’t think you
have the time, but you do, make YOURSELF a priority)
and continue to tap down any stress, anxiety or worry
you might be feeling.

I’ve just come up with a new rule for myself around
tapping, that you might enjoy…

“Never stop tapping unless the issue is at a “3” of
intensity or less…”

So keep going until you bring at least one primary
challenge down significantly.  You’ll thank yourself
for it later!

Did you have a good experience with this tapping?

Share your thoughts :) below.

I will be facilitating an informational /tapping-eft  session about transforming procrastination into action which is a segment of the

Here is a wonderful quote from Leonard Cohen that was presented at a training I attended to become certified to teach anger management:

“Ring the bells that still can ring!
Forget your perfect offering!
There is a crack in  everything!
That’s how the light gets in!”

There is usually no need for perfection :)

Here’s a “take-away” from this training:  Ask yourself  “The Big Question” whenever you become angry:

“What do I need right now to make it OK and to be healthy.”

It’s the “right now” part that can stop someone from taking drastic anger steps- ie if the issue is a bad driver who cut you off you can simply change lanes and stay away from him instead of getting into a rage .

The same principle applies to a person who is really “annoying” on line at the store, at home, at the office, etc. Leave for a time out or change locations and “breathe” for stress release: inhale from your nose and longer exhale from mouth.

We create abundance by allowing it in, by letting go of resistance that manifests in the form of fear, anger and shutting down.    Each area of life must be consciously “opened” : relationships, career, financial, spiritual, health, recreational.  We can begin to do this by meditating with the mantras:

  • “let abundance into the area of…
  • allow $$ to flow freely into my life..
  • allow love into my life and allow me to send it out”.

This process is similar to  prayer, with more personal involvement. We must be very aware and alert to change to notice when the circumstances / conditions are right for abundance:  then it’s up to you to take action!! We must move towards success, it doesn’t “come” to us.

EFT is an additional avenue/tool to opening the gates of allowing. You may read more about EFT here

An example of an effective set-up phrase with the EFT “choice method”:

“Even though I am struggling with financial issues, I choose to allow abundance to come into my life.”

After  tapping  the points for 3 sets you will notice your perception of allowing abundance skyrocket!  Since I’ve been meditating and “tapping” with the art of allowing abundance,  I’ve seen amazing results as have my clients and groups.

Following these two modalities it is positive reinforcement to visualize your abundance as you want it happening in each area. Everyday go through these sequences. Of course, as previously mentioned, you must take action. If you find yourself procrastinating, then it is a sign that there is a fear around the action- since all procrastination is based on one or more of these fears:  of judgment, of failure, of success , of being controlled.  The same techniques may be successfully applied to getting into gear and transforming procrastination into positive, powerful action if you really want to do something.

The dictionary does not tell us how to accelerate the resilience process, it only defines it:

1.  “springing back into shape, position, etc. after being stretched, bent or compressed.”

2.  “recovering strength, spirits, etc. quickly.”

Being resilient in body, mind and spirit is key  to being happy and successful in all areas of life.  Emotionally, it’s the opposite of being “stuck in a rut” and it’s about being positive.  Physically, it can translate to strength and flexibility. Spiritually it can indicate faith with the ability to maintain hope in tumultuous times.  It’s about staying centered and grounded and making “right” choices.

So, you may be asking yourself, how does one maintain emotional-spiritual equilibrium and resiliency when things can be unpredictable and often in crisis mode? How can we accelerate the resilience process?  It’s not easy, and takes some work. It’s easy to create positive patterns and habits when life is going smoothly.  It can be quite challenging while being swept away by negative forces.  A good mentor/coach and practice is important, and the practice will create a “spill-over” effect into life situations.

Many people, including myself, have learned how to be more resilient.  There are skill sets of meditation, relaxation breathing, visualization and “tapping” (EFT- Emotional Freedom Techniques) that all add into helping an individual maintain focus and be positive. Exercising, eating healthfully and being in healthy relationships are naturally fortifying. Most people are not born resilient, but do have the capacity to learn how to be this way.  Here are a few tips to accelerate the process:
• Think of possibilities from different perspectives.
• Stop talking in absolutes. Eliminate the words nothing and never from self talk.
• Set specific goals that are attainable.
• When you are feeling down due to personal circumstances, take stock of your strengths.
• Lower the stakes, not the standards: Don’t have your whole life riding on the outcome of one event
• Savor small triumphs, steps leading to the bigger picture.
• Set aside self blame and learn from your mistakes.
• Surround yourself with positive people
• Do not read, watch or listen to the news if you become “too upset”.
• Take a few minutes each day to reflect on your feelings.
• Cultivate generosity and gratitude.
You are the only one who can control your attitude. By focusing on what is strong and enduring and seeing your potential, you can take calculated risks and overcome challenges. It takes an open, creative mind free from anxiety to pick up on opportunities. They are out there ready to be accessed by your positive and resilient radar!

I included transform procrastination with EFT module with a (live!) group of graduate students at Stonybrook University in Long Island, New York for a Time Management Seminar- part of my giving back-volunteer work :)

This  got me thinking about how tech savvy most students are , being able to  access information in a flash- and that simple tried and true time/stress management techniques (in addition to inter-personal communication skills) need to be reinforced.  They were “hungry” for this- and totally receptive to EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques, originated by Gary Craig; find out more http:www.balanceandpower.com/eft.php).  They left the seminar feeling better about their timelines this month and ready to tackle the procrastination issues.

Another segment of our population that needs extra help now with interpersonal communication and stress/anger management  skills  are returning veterans who are enrolling in colleges across the country with the US government paying the tuition.  I recently attended a conference about this, a  huge eye opener.  Young vets are coming home lacking these skills and entering an uncertain economy, famility shifts and more.

The Motivational Whisperers are here to help everyone- we are all personal and business development experts.  Register now for  our January event: motivationalwhisperersmillionairemindsetchallenge
