My cat, Suki has been an “indoor cat” since last Fall, when he was bitten by an animal and had a serious infection. He is a bit challenged (a rescue cat), so we decided to keep him in. Recently, it’s been easy, he seemed to run away whenever we opened the back door to the deck. So, thinking that this was his MO, after a lovely dinner of bbq scallops
( inspiration from Facebook or Twitter last night) and drinks, I was carrying dishes, opened the door, and Suki ran out. Instinctively, with all best interests in mind, I stomped my foot down on him, he ran inside causing me to fall and have a perfectly aligned “rolling like ball yoga-pitates move with plates on my abs, and thank G landed on my left buttock, not the one I had a cortisone shot in yesterday (triple ouch!). I scrambled up and asked where did he go??, was reassured inside, probably in his safe space under A’s bed..and then I assessed my physical damages- none! miracle. So I asked Steve, who witnessed all, what the message was- he said, if he really gets out, he’ll be back to eat; and if you see him at the door, pause and shoo him away before you proceed to enter. OK ! Happy Memorial Day Weekend, everyone~

Dealing with Procrastination (c) 5/09

I always try out new EFT http://www.balanceandpower.com/eft.php techniques on myself first even if they don’t seem to apply to me, and the idea of targeting procrastination certainly didn’t seem to apply. Although ending procrastination with EFT was an intriguing idea, I was sure that I was the last person in the world who needed to address this problem. I remembered how some relatives of mine are chronically annoyed with my tendency to do things immediately as they come up. “Do you always have to do everything “yesterday”? What’s the hurry? Can’t it wait?”.
So, when I sat down and wrote out a huge list of To-Do’s that related to the four major projects I was working on at the time (all with pressing deadlines!) I found the list itself to be revealing. Did I really have that much to do in so little time and in so many different areas of my life?
To test out my new EFT strategy, I systematically applied it to each item on my list. However, it wasn’t until the following day that I saw the effects. What happened then was eye opening.
My first realization was that I had, in fact, been fooling myself all along. I had been a secret (hidden to myself) “procrastinator” on a number of levels and in certain areas, and this had been causing me uneasiness, annoyance at myself, and some needless inefficiency, although by ordinary standards I am not inefficient.
HERE’S WHAT HAPPENED THE NEXT DAY…
• When I looked over the topics of things I had to get done I felt so different about doing them that it was hard to believe that this was possible.
• I was doing them, one after the other.
• It was no big deal to do them.
• I didn’t feel sorry for myself for having to “do the impossible”.
• There was no self-pity (and I hadn’t even realized I’d had any self-pity before!)
• My carefully constructed rationale for not doing these things was gone. It had vanished.
• I couldn’t believe this was “me” acting this way. Something basic had changed.
A few readings-over of my list of EFT Choices over the subsequent days, and some time spent tapping on them, and this change consolidated and became permanent.
Then I began to apply this method to my clients and the same thing happened with them. Their procrastination simply melted away, even if it had been a persistent habit. The new EFT method simply transformed the way these people viewed themselves in relation to getting things done that needed to be done.
In short, this unorthodox and surprising approach worked. Since then I’ve taught this gentle method for getting rid of procrastination to a large number of clients, with life transformative results. Do you want to have your life change as you see things become easy to do that never were before Easy… Transforming… This new approach can dissolve your tendency to procrastinate.
I’m coaching entrepreneurs who are finding new opportunities in this new marketplace and also people who yearn to be entrepreneurs and need a sounding board, encouragement, brainstorming opportunities, clear vision and a boost in confidence in order to move forward.

Get off the Pity Pot!

I was having a conversation re a mutual friend with a friend at the gym and she said, “it’s about time she got off the pity pot.” Never having heard that expression before, I commented…and found out it was from her mom. Well, the comment led to further discussion about how pity is some folk’s “comfort zone” and they become attached, comfortable with it. The conversation resonates with all I’ve been thinking-writing about resilience. The first step is definitely getting off the pity pot.
Tapping into Resilience: access your resilience factor

Resilience is a buzzword these days. Senator Edward’s wife, Elizabeth, has just published a book and is touring with it about her bouncing back after learning about the senator’s infidelity. There is a wonderful book, “The Resilience Factor”, by David Oliver that is a cornerstone of Positive Psychology. I was excited about having that exact title for mine, until learning of it’s existence. I haven’t yet reserved rights for my title, so I hope no one takes it.
. Anyway, the R word has been resonating with me for a while now,(hmm..maybe I’ll title this “The R Word”) and I know I’m really writing it since I’m making this commitment right now!!Ask me more…

Keep Dancing! (c)5/09

To all the wonderful people on the journey with me,
A psychic healer via telephone told me, “never stop dancing”. I’d not spoken with her before, she didn’t know that about 20 years ago I shut down along with my dance/exercise studio when my foot was run over by a van. Yes, I was jaywalking and the van was making an illegal move. Yes, I was stopped in my tracks, right foot forward. Yes, I was grateful that’s all that happened. Yes I suffered PTSD. So I agreed with the psychic and asked her to tell me her reason. “Because it frees you”, she said. Recently contemplating this conversation that I had about a year ago, at the time undergoing numerous physical ailments due to age and over-use, I’ve come to peace with physical modifications for myself in dancing and exercising. Additionally, I’ve placed the concept of “dancing” into an intellectual-emotional realm of possibility: creativity for the soul. Do you know what frees you? We can know something (or someone) for a lifetime(s), and be taking it/him/her for granted. Being thankful and grateful never goes out of style. In this time of economic, environmental, health and world peace challenges, it’s more important than ever to take time each day to be grateful, to pursue personal passion(s) and create new possibilities. Allow yourself to access the positive energies within you and be resilient!
