Power Quote

Success

“Perfectionism is a refusal to let yourself move ahead. It is a loop – an obsessive, debilitating closed system that causes you to get stuck in the details of what you are writing or painting or making and to lose sight of the whole.”

- Julia Cameron

Perfectionism is the enemy of creativity, productivity, and, at times, sanity. You don’t even have to be creating anything to be crippled by perfectionism. It can also frustrate your efforts as a mom, a wife, a friend, and a human being. No one and no thing is perfect.
PS. When this appeared in my power quotes blogthought newsletter blast there was a funny typo, which I’ve corrected on this blog. (as in not perfect).

Tapping into opportunity is about working creatively with potential, not being limited by challenges. The key to realizing your own potential is tuning in to how you interpret the events playing out in your own life. It’s about acknowledging fear and anxiety and releasing it. It’s about following your passion. Are we looking for the opportunities and making predictions that we can realize with our own actions? The choice is ours. It’s about thinking accurately, making calculated risks and when things go wrong, seeing the setbacks as temporary. It’s about being innovative, flexible and resilient; being able to move forward from a fall. Resilience is the mindset that encourages sound and practical ingenuity and shines a light: for yourself and others.
Twelve Tips to being Resilient
• Resilience/optimism is not about sugar coating the truth. Lying gets you into trouble- even with yourself!
• Think of possibilities from different perspectives.
• Stop talking in absolutes. Eliminate the words nothing and never from self talk.
• Set specific goals that are attainable.
• When you are feeling down due to personal circumstances, take stock of your strengths.
• Lower the stakes, not the standards: Don’t have your whole life riding on the outcome of one event
• Savor small triumphs, steps leading to the bigger picture.
• Set aside self blame and learn from your mistakes.
• Surround yourself with positive people
• Do not read, watch or listen to the news if you become “too upset”.
• Take a few minutes each day to reflect on your feelings.
• Cultivate generosity and gratitude.
You are the only one who can control your attitude. By focusing on what is strong and enduring and seeing your potential, you can take calculated risks and overcome challenges. It takes an open, creative mind free from anxiety to pick up on opportunities. They are out there ready to be sweeped up by your positive and resilient radar.

To all the recipients of my heart felt networking letter from a few days ago, please add to my recommended networking links:

David Gussin, http://www.516ads.com and http://www.631ads.com, a star of Long Island’s networking/advertising/PR community –
David has informative and fun sites which, in addition to postings and listings, have informational and fun articles, including mine- posted each month on his 516 website.
And, ta-da! Yvonne and Howard Bisk, lientrepreneurs@yahoo.com who have mentored me in networking meet-ups. The afternoon after I wrote the letter and pressed send, I came down with an awful stomach bug (missed Savannah’s). Thanks, Yvonne, for the lovely tea and sympathy note~
The bug must’ve been brewing and I missed a few key links in the process. Please accept my humble apologies~ David, Yvonne and Howard.

Peace, love and light,
Eileen

When I see this on a menu i let go of all healthy eating habits and order!
A few times, when I debated and didn’t, I regretted. Surely, if I had tapped on it, I would have bypassed eating them. I knew that was a possibility… maybe next time!

According to a US News and World Report poll, sixty percent of Americans said that President Obama’s inauguration made them feel “more hopeful about the next four years.” Even though the economy’s growth charts are hitting bottom, various news outlets are reporting a surge in spirit.

So, what’s going on? Is optimism an unwise strategy leaving us unprepared? Is it really safe to be an optimist through doom and gloom? Optimism is about working creatively with potential, not being limited by the challenges. It’s about the glass half full and not deluding ourselves that the glass is filled with champagne. The key to optimism is tuning in to how we interpret the events playing out in our own lives. Are we looking for the opportunities and making predictions that we can realize with our own actions? The choice is ours. It’s about thinking accurately, making calculated risks and when things go wrong, seeing the setbacks as temporary. It’s about being innovative, flexible and resilient and being able to move forward from a fall. Optimism is the mindset that encourages sound and practical ingenuity and shines a light: for yourself and others.

Twelve Tips to Safely “Go Optimistic”:

• Optimism is not about sugar coating the truth. Lying gets you into trouble- even with yourself!
• Think of possibilities from different perspectives.
• Stop talking in absolutes. Eliminates the words nothing and never from self talk.

We are the only ones who can control our attitude. By focusing on what is strong and enduring and seeing our potential, we can take calculated risks and overcome challenges.

If you haven’t yet guessed, this is about the flame and the stone in my living room. I haven’t focused on a flame in a long time~ much of my meditative time is with eyes closed and focusing on my breath. This eve I was enthralled with a flame of a candle down low with a way-high flame~ it was so high and then peaked almost undiscernibly to what I imagined was infinity…. and in an instant began to tremor into a psychodelic strobe light dance that I am happy that I don’t need to medically avoid..and then in an instant diminished to a “normal” flame. A flame is effected by air currents, and I wonder, anything else??
An amethyst stone that’s been floating around my house for years, somehow got itself attached to the dripping wax in the dish. I had moved the dish-candle-stone to our dining table (with fabulous cous-cous-cinnamon scented melange by in house chef, Steve). I lovingly detached the stone from the wax, and rolled it around in my fingers. That brought back memories of Sue’s workshop where she gave them out to do exactly that, and my later “stone” experiences.

Share your personal flame and stone meditations~

Namaste, Eileen

Oh! Spring..
One reason I live in the NY area is for the seasons..a taste of Spring in March and folks are extremely happy AND HAVING FUN~ the energy is amazing!! On this mild eve Steve and I saw a wonderful dance performance/City Center/Paul Taylor. Each of the three dances were fabulous~ and the last one, a debut that was written up in the Times last week was given standing ovation and many curtain calls…and then Paul Taylor, 78 years old, emerged and joined the company. Bravo!!
We discussed who goes to dance performance? I know dancers-former dancers-their families and friends- and later, I asked Steve (who enjoys this viewing as much as I do, and me a former performance dancer in college and later owner of dance/exercise studio (http://www.balanceandpower.com/meeteileen/php). I still love it-Zumba, weddings, etc., and he said, ” I never went to a Broadway play before I met you..”. I told him that I was sure he would have found it all, eventually! We agreed that spouses of the above mentioned were in the audience, for sure! Next week we will see a Brazilian music venue uptown, with friends.
Ah, New York!
